A week with the Beckenham Team

The team wanted to share the good news stories that have occurred in the local area this week, following the work the team has been doing. This is the work that the teams of Beckenham Town and Copers Cope, Clock House, Kelsey and Eden Park and Shortlands and Park Langley have been a part of.

A prolific offender was arrested this week by the Beckenham and Shortlands Team and charged with 11 offences. The male attended court the next day and received a 16-week sentence and a CBO, which restrict him from entering Beckenham and Penge High Street.

Clockhouse and Kelsey Teams have conducted proactive patrols and came across two wanted offenders. The male was arrested for shoplifting and was charged for the offence and is due to appear at court. And was female was also arrested for shoplifting and charged for the offence and attended court the following day.

Clockhouse Team had their quarterly panel meeting, there was a good turn out, with discussion around what the team had been doing and upcoming operations and events. New priorities were set by residents, and the team will be having a focus on these until the next panel meeting.

Shortlands Teams have had their bi-monthly panel meeting where senior SLT Superintendent Luke Baldock was in attendance, to discuss local concerns, and provide an update to local residents.

The team has continued to be apart of the new neighbourhood initiative, conducting proactive patrols across the wards, they have been looking at tackling the key issue and ward priorities for each cluster. Patrols have been conducted around Mackenzie Road, Blandford Road, Birkbeck Road, and Harvington Rec.

Officers have been working with local shops to collect more evidence in regard to shoplifting in Beckenham.

Crime Prevention Advice

This week’s crime prevention advice is around personal safety, specifically around phones and public transport:

  • Secure your phone: Use your phone’s security features to stop someone using your phone if it’s stolen. Choose a strong PIN, passcode, password or pattern.
  •

  • Get your IMEI number: Get your phone’s IMEI number by typing *#06# on your phone keypad. Keep a note of it somewhere other than on your phone. The IMEI can help track the phone down if it’s lost or stolen.
  •

  • Use a tracking app: Set up a tracking app on your phone so you can see where it is from another device like a laptop. Use it as soon as possible, before thieves have a chance to disable it.
  •

    Make sure:

  • Your phone data is regularly being backed up, either automatically over wifi or by plugging it into a computer
  •

  • There’s somewhere else you can get access codes sent to (two-factor authentication codes) to access your data from another device
  •

  • You keep important information like family and friends’ phone numbers and passwords somewhere else secure, not just on your phone
